Yet in the last year Zuckerberg's army has had to retreat in 9 territories: in 5 it was stopped by Odnoklassniki, in 2 by Vkontakte and in another 2 by Linkedin. It is curious to discover that in some states, such as Botwana, Mozambique, Namibia, Iran and Indonesia, interest in Instagram prevails and that in some areas of Africa LinkedIn wins. Overall, the social network for the world of work conquers 9 countries, the image network prevails in 7, while VKontakte and Odnoklassniki (both part of the Mail.ru group) increase their presence, respectively, in 7 and 5 Soviet territories. Within the Chinese "great firewall" QZone remains and in Japan Twitter continues to have the upper hand (even if here there is a presence of networks mainly based on mobile devices, which are difficult to detect). But what happens behind the leadership positions? To find out, I compared various traffic analysis services, such as SimilarWeb and Alexa.
Which give an estimate of popularity by country, in the absence of granular Canada Phone Number official data. In the 57 countries that I was able to analyse, there is a tight competition between Instagram, in second place in 37 countries, and Twitter, present in 8 countries. The former, this year, has grown to 600 million monthly users, while the latter has remained stagnant at 320 million. The outsider of this new analysis is Reddit, the 2.0 forum, which took second place in 5 countries, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Norway and New Zealand. During 2017 we will see if Facebook will be able to reconquer the territories of the former Soviet bloc and penetrate further into Africa. Furthermore, it will be interesting to understand how much Instagram and LinkedIn will grow and what will become of Twitter. What are your predictions?
The Twitter mobile app gets a makeover with the launch of the “Explore” section. The attempt is to simplify its interface and push users towards fresh content, which happens outside their circle (Twitter's main competitive factor). Explore will unify previously separate sections and allow you to do research, discover trends , live videos, moments (collections of tweets). The new section opens with a highlighted video, to give Twitter the opportunity to promote live, perhaps sponsored, events. Further down there is the “Trending Now” section (with the indication of the number of tweets linked to the trending keyword or the people followed who talk about it), then “Today's Moments” to identify the news collections and finally “Explore All ” through which to delve deeper into a topic of interest: news, sport, entertainment or funny tweets. The update will initially be available in the iOS app and then also for Android. It seems to me to be an appropriate simplification, but still too little to win back the lost audience.
